The Lexington chapter of the English-Speaking Union held a series of impressive events at VMI on 10 October, 1980. The British Army and the British Embassy were represented at a black tie dinner in Moody Hall in the evening. Mr. George Preston Frazier '29 presented to the VMI Alumni Association, a portrait of Great Britains dynamic and colorful Lord Hailsham of St. Marylebone, the current Lord Cahncellor i Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher's government. The painting was accepted by Grover Outland '49B, First Vice President of the VMI Alumni Association, who explained that Lord Hailsham had visited VMI and Leington and had a high regard for VMI. He extolled the generousity of Mr. Frazier, a fine artist in his own right. Mr. Frazier gave the background of the artist, Kenneth Hari. Lord Hailsham likes the painting and was especially pleased that it would hang at VMI. |
