As a painter and printmaker, Kenneth Hari excels. As a sculptor, he is a visionary. His newest project is a series of crystal lucite sculpture editions - a medium he helped to pioneer in the late 1950's, which is quite similar to bronze casting.
Hers is a Radiance
of luminous compulsion
Giving a man
the soul of a poet.
Fifteen years of enchantment
out of twenty-four years of life
could not dim the effulgence
of still beauty
Burning
in an immortal candle.

- Paul Roche, Poet
Beatrice
One sculpture that certainly stands out is "Beatrice", seen here. Adopted from the legend of the poet Dante's doomed love, it is a delicate yet haunting piece. She stands partially obscured, wrapped in a glassine shroud.

Light plays upon her smooth sensual surface and gives life to its crystalline form. The sculpture - reminiscent of Rondon, Art Nouveau, and the French Symbolists - rises like a host from its platform of ice.

Two other sculptures in this series, "Moses" and "The Prophet", are similar in style and strength. Both, seen below, are awash in sensual line and form, and seem to absorb all available light.
Moses sculpture
Cradled in reeds,
made son of a princess...
Who could have told
the saga
of this passionate man;
this patient impatient,
modest giant;
Monumental as the Nile
or tablets of stone,
who could fell an Egyptian,
flare up at a Pharaoh,
Argue with GOD

- Paul Roche, Poet

Crystal acrylic - or optical crystal, as it is also known - is the clearest material known to man. Due to the extreme lucidity of this substance, Hari's sculptures have an added dimension of space that exists within the sculpture itself.

This dimension makes the sculpture exceptionally dynamic, a quality that gives an almost supernatural aura to his bust of Beatrice, as well as the two others in this series.
